Student surveys: I have consistently used and reflected on students’ feedback and recommendation. Students’ feedback is important factor that I consider and reflect on to improve classes (on-campus & online). The course evaluations help me to look into courses from students’ perspective. I have included in this section few suggestions that taken from students surveys to improve my courses. More can be found in the course evaluation appendix. The following table summarizes the course the I have taught over the past ten semesters, enrolment, and instructor/course rating based on students’ evaluation:
The attached file includes the complete course evolutions
Teaching rate: Overall, students who responded to the course and instructor evaluation surveys (N = 358) over the past ten semesters have endorsed excellent ratings of the courses and instructor (overall teaching rate = 4.57/5= 91%). Students indicated that syllabi, assignments, activities, and grading were highly organized and explained clearly. The students reported that the instructor utilized a variety of approaches (e.g. field trips, guest speakers, group activities, youtube videos, internet, textbook, and instructor recorded short videos) to achieve courses objectives. They appreciate that my courses increased their knowledge of the topic. Also, they mentioned that the instructor scheduled assignments and tests with appropriate deadlines. Additionally, students indicated that instructor was very well prepared for classes, returned assignments in a timely manner, explained grading criteria, and responded to student questions appropriately. Finally, students reported that instructor was knowledgeable and well prepared, and provided effective feedback on returned assignments, homework, and tests. My classes are described as practical and relevant to real life environment. The following table includes quotes from students (online & on-campus) provided in the courses and instructor evaluation over the past ten semesters:

Course Evaluation Reflections: The quotes listed above confirmed to me that students appreciated the amount of time and effort that I spent to prepare for classes. I was able to achieve students’ needs because of my continuous preparation and improvement for my courses, using variety of instructional techniques, and connecting with students at supportive level (personally, and professionally). Making myself available to students (via one-to-one sessions, office hours, emails, online videos, cell phone) is also an important factor that helps students’ success during their learning process. Finally, students appreciated my knowledge in operations and technology management as well as my applied research experience. The data received from the course and instructor evaluation surveys is used to improve the courses and ensure the quality of instruction material. I have the goal of making every semester is better the one before it. I have selected the three of the courses that I teach every semester (twice a year) (TADT 3100, 3267, 4878) to show how I used the students’ comments to improve these classes. The examples taken from online & on-campus classes are summarized in the tables below.
Grade distributions (97.30% of my students pass my classes and achieved a C grade of above) I have included in this section an overview of students grades distribution in my classes over the past three years. I use grade distribution and statistics to monitor course quality and ensure that students are able to meet the objectives of the course. It is important to me that my students are able to success in the course and achieve high grade. My goal is that 90% of the students achieve C or higher in my courses.
Variety of techniques and strategies are used in the classroom: I use different activities and assessment strategies in my classes to make students benefit the most from classes. I have a mix of activities group activities, individual activities, written assignments, discussions, and quizzes to accommodate all needs. For example, in order to focus on developing presentation skills in my classes, I ask students to present on a topic of their selection once every three weeks. The self-introduction is on week one. I have utilized the idea of mini conference in my classes by asking students to present in a poster presentation format. I want the students to be able to gain soft skills as well as technical and management skills. Therefore, I take every opportunity to let them practice public speaking and presentations. I also like to keep my courses connected to industry and real life applications. To achieve this goal, I have visited with my students Nortech, Teams industry, Bemidji Woolen Mills, and north central doors. I have invited David Close to Operations Planning and Control , Jeff East to TADT 3100, Eric Pennington to TADT 3100, & Shelly Ejean to TADT 3267. This impacted students in Quality Assurance, Cost Analysis, Operations planning and control & Professional Development. I have also used four case studies in my Quality Assurance to bring examples of real problems from industry to the students. Last but not least, I used simulation from Harvard business to reinforce topics in my quality assurance using a fun and games. I use the following techniques to make my classes more engaging and more effective
Pictures of activities in the classroom
Inviting guest speakers
Using case studies and Harvard Business simulation in my TADT 4878 & TADT 3700
Observation of classroom instruction: I have invited Professor Donna Pawlowski from the Center for Professional Development to one of my classes TADT 4878 Quality Assurance. She enjoyed the lecture and the multiple learning activities that I used. There two recommendation they have provided: 1- Call students names during the lecture and ask them questions or engage them in a discussion. 2- at the beginning of lecture ask how the students did over the weekend. One recommendation that I can not control is that “teaching in a lab is hard to see if the students engaged during the lecture or not”.
Quality Matters and the Peer-reviewed Courses Quality matters rubric is a great tool to improve courses from students perspective. All my courses and syllabi are designed around to Quality Matters rubric. I’m a QM master reviewer and I have extensive experience in reviewing the courses. All my syllabi include measurable course outcomes, course outcomes and activities are aligned, variety of assessments have been used (e.g. self-assessment quizzes, assignments, quizzes, discussions, case study, final projects/ presentations, other), and three types of interaction (e.g. student-to-student, student-to-instructor, & student-to-content). The following courses are certified by Quality Matters:
TADT 4878 Quality Assurance
TADT 3700 Operations Planning and Control
TADT 3100 Principles of Professional Development
TADT 3267 Economic and Cost Analysis (in-progress)
Instruction Beyond the Classroom 1. Support students learning activities by providing recorded videos, review sessions, and quick response to their emails. I have provided the best support for my students by offering recorded videos, review sessions for midterm and for final exams, respond to their emails within 24 hours. I record 3-5 videos every week. These are short videos 5-10 min. Over the past two years, I recorded more than 160 Ponapto videos and 1000 minutes!
2. Developing YouTube channel Creating an education channel helped me reach to more students from all over the world. I’m so happy the views reached to more than 7.9 k views over the past year.
3. Introduce advanced software e.g. Minitab to Quality Assurance class
4. Using games in the classroom To keep students engaged, I develop activities to help them interact with each other as a group. Using socritive.com: race activity between the teams Using Kahoot to review important concepts
5. Using Lego and building sets to practice creating flow chart for a car manufacturing
The following demonstrate the use of D2L Learning Management Systems for my classes.
Class schedule included in the course syllabi on day 1
New Courses Developed Based on recommendation from the advisory board, TADT found that there is a need to develop new courses to keep up with the changes in the filed. I took the lead to develop and teach these courses for the first few semesters. The courses that I developed are:
Introduction to cost management
Computer applications for project managers
Developing OER courses Reduce the financial burden on students: Open Education Resource (OER) is a great initiative started by MnState and I have been part of it since it started. I have developed three courses with no textbook required: TADT 2930 Intro to Cost Management, TADT 2931 Computer Applications for Project Management, and TADT 3700 Operations Planning and Control.
Developing HyFlex courses This is a unique teaching style that will help accommodate all students needs during COVID 19 and beyond.
National Recognized Professor I was highlighted by Online Engineering Management Programs on the list “Professor to Know In Engineering Management Programs.” The list is comprised of outstanding professors and universities in acknowledgment of their great contributions to academia.
